The LifeCam Studio webcam is also equipped with TrueColor technology. This makes sure that you get a bright and vibrant video quality in any lighting condition. It also features the ClearFrame technology. That assures you of smooth and detailed video recordings. You can even rotate the webcam halfway in both directions to get an all-around view.

  • Microsoft LifeCam Studio For Business LifeCam Studio For Business is another one from the more affordable business end of the Logitech range, but it’s seriously impressive hence why we’ve designated it as our Best Value recommendation in today’s top-rated conference camera review.
  • Skype works too Skype does the same thing as camera control (i use osx lion 10.7.4 and a microsoft lifecam studio), but in my case it doesn't matter, if i leave the app running or not! After i started Skype once, the exposure is fine in FaceTime, photo booth etc., also if i quit Skype before or during i use one of the mentioned apps!
  • This review is for the 'Microsoft LifeCam Studio 1080p HD Webcam - Gray' in case you find it under another product. I was looking for a new webcam for the frequent Zoom meetings I attend. The main requirement was the camera's viewing angle had to be narrower than the wide-angle view provided by nearly every other less-expensive webcam.

Design

The LifeCam HD 3000 is a 1.7-inch webcam that comes in a plastic, oval casing. The webcam features a series of fake shutters mounted around the lens with the Microsoft logo stamped on the front.

The camera can swivel slightly side to side when mounted atop your monitor to help you adjust the frame.

Unfortunately, most people won't find it easy to patch the HD 3000 on top of the screen. The camera uses a flexible rubber mount to wrap around the back of your screen. Make sure the foot sits perfectly for a tight fit.

Other than the positioning struggles, the arm is quite sturdy and can stand up by itself. The HD 3000 doesn't come with a tripod mount on the bottom, but you can use the webcam’s arm as a stand on a desk or even place it on a shelf above your screen.

Features and Performance

The HD 3000 falls short when it comes to its sole purpose - taking photos and videos. Shooting footage with this 720p camera is frustrating since the output is unrepentantly blurry. The video shows off less detail than the output of most of the cameras in this list. Color reproduction is poor, and the background might appear dark and grungy. Unsurprisingly, the camera performs very poorly in the dark.

While the webcam comes with noise-canceling, the LifeCam HD 3000 microphone doesn't do much to reduce ambient noise. In fact, it produces some on its own. You may hear some crackling as you adjust the camera to a satisfactory position. You might also hear an echo during playback.

The Microsoft HD 3000 is compatible with the LifeCam software from Microsoft. The software allows you to play with a selection of fun filters, masks, and effects to bring your video chats to life. You can also select what resolution to use in your videos and photos. Also, you can save photos, audio, and videos to your hard drive, which comes in handy for Windows 7 users who may not have a built-in webcam software.

Verdict

The Microsoft LifeCam HD 3000 is the webcam to buy if you're on a budget and aren't too concern about quality. The device's blurry videos and photos are not much of an improvement over a standard laptop's built-in camera.

Overall, the Microsoft LifeCam HD 3000 is not a replacement for a high-end webcam, but it will suffice for most basic needs. It’s the perfect low-cost choice for anyone who needs a basic webcam. Despite its attractive pricing, you might want to steer clear unless you have the crappiest built-in camera or no webcam at all.
