Microsoft Remote Desktop Error Code 0x104

Error

Hi,
I have a Surface Pro running W10 Pro, I have been trying to access remotely from an iPad using the Windows Remote Desktop app. It works perfectly if both iPad and Surface are connected to the same wifi network, otherwise when trying to connect it comes up with error 0x104. I have read lots of articles on the net and used every recommended setting with no joy. I even tried contacting Microsoft support and after wasting more than an hour on the phone I was told that the Remote Desktop is only meant to work for computers connected to the same network. Is this really the case? What is the point to access a computer remotely if you need to be at the same location? Anyone has any suggestions?
Thank you
G

Microsoft Remote Desktop Error Code 0x104 Macbook

As I need access to my office, I used Microsoft Remote Desktop with High Sierra without any problems with my Mac Mini with High Sierra. I recently bought a MacBook Pro which use Mojave. I tried it with Microsoft Remote Desktop and It don't work. As I also have another Mini with Mojave, I also tried it and it is doing the same thing. Microsoft Remote Desktop seems to work with High Sierra but not with 2 Macs with Mojave. Is there some incompatibility between this software and Mojave ? I always have this message when I try to connect:
We couldn't connect to the remote PC because the PC can't be found. Please provide the fully-qualified name or the IP address of the remote PC, and then try again.
